The Laramie Project to be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Evansville

Matthew Shepard, a gay student of the University of Wyoming, was brutally attacked, tied to a fence, and left to die on October 7, 1998. He died from his injuries five days later. After the murder, members of the Tectonic Theater Project in New York City traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, to interview residents about how the attack had affected the town. These transcripts were transformed into The Laramie Project, the stories of real people who lived at the epicenter of one of the nation’s most heinous anti-gay hate crimes.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Evansville, 2910 Morgan Avenue, is proud to host The Laramie Project on Friday, December 1. Doors open at 7 PM. Performance begins 7:30 PM. Advance tickets can be purchased http://www.uuevansville.org or by check for $15 to UUCE at the address above.

About Thich Nat Hanh: Thich Nhat Hanh is a Zen spiritual leader, poet and peace activist. His is known around the world for his powerful teachings and bestselling writings on mindfulness and peace, but his key teaching is that of mindfulness, and by doing so, we can learn to live happily in the present moment — truly developing peace, both in one’s self and in the world. He was born in central Vietnam in 1926 and at the age of sixteen, entered the Tu Hieu Temple, located at Hue city. When war came to Vietnam, the monks and nuns were confronted with two decisions, continue the contemplative life meditating in the monasteries or to help those around them suffering turmoil of war. Thich Nhat Hanh was one of those who chose to do both. Over the course of his life, he has authored/published over 100 books raging from topics on meditation, mindfulness and Engaged Buddhism, as well as poems, children’s stories, and commentaries on ancient Buddhist texts.
